Fire Breaks Out in Southampton High-Rise on New Year’s Day
A fire erupted in a high-rise block in Southampton this afternoon, sparking a major response. Around 30 firefighters rushed to 1 Towers after flames broke out at 1.30pm on Sunday, January 1st.
Dramatic Rescue on 17th Floor
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus stormed the 17th floor to rescue a resident suffering from smoke inhalation. Fortunately, no other flats needed evacuation as the blaze was quickly contained to a kitchen.
Cause of Blaze: Grill Pan Left on Fire
The fire is believed to have started accidentally from a grill pan left unattended. Crews doused the flames using a hose reel connected to the tower’s internal dry riser system.
Firefighters from Across Southampton Respond
- Teams from 1, Hightown, and St Mary’s fire stations arrived on scene.
- Support crews from Eastleigh also provided assistance.
- Local bus routes were diverted during the emergency response.
The swift action from fire crews ensured the fire was under control in no time, avoiding any major damage or injuries apart from the one person treated for smoke inhalation.
