Firefighters Rush to Subway Unit After Cable Sparks Fire
Four fire engines and around 30 firefighters stormed the Riverside Shopping Centre on Bexley Road just after 6 a.m. on Saturday. The fire is believed to have started when a smouldering cable ignited items inside the Subway outlet.
Security staff at the scene quickly alerted the London Fire Brigade, who sent a Command unit alongside the fire crews to tackle the flames.
Swift Action Stops Blaze Spreading
Firefighters wasted no time, deploying two hose reels to bring the fire under control. Their prompt response prevented the fire from engulfing neighbouring shops. Still, a part of the retail unit suffered heavy damage.
Smoke Forces Evacuations, But No Injuries Reported
Smoke from the fire led to nearby residents being evacuated as a precaution. Thankfully, no injuries were reported during the incident.
