Huge Woodland Fire Erupts Near Ashford
A massive blaze broke out on Wissenden Lane, Bethersden, close to Ashford on Monday, July 1. The fire engulfed felled trees and thick undergrowth, sparking a major emergency response from Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS).
Blaze Spreads Across 200 Square Metres
The fire, covering roughly 200 square metres, was first spotted at 1:21 PM. KFRS scrambled six fire engines, a bulk water carrier, an all-terrain vehicle, and a technical rescue team armed with a drone to tackle the flames. The volunteer response team also pitched in, offering crucial support at the scene.
Firefighters Battle Flames for Hours
Crews fought relentlessly for several hours, using high-pressure hose reel jets and main jets to control and extinguish the fire. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries during the operation.
“Our crews worked tirelessly to control and put out the fire involving felled trees and undergrowth,” a KFRS spokesperson said. “The swift, coordinated response ensured the fire was contained without harm to anyone.”
Investigation Underway, Residents Warned
The cause of the blaze remains unknown and is under active investigation. Local residents are urged to stay alert and report any suspicious behaviour or further fires to help keep the area safe.
