Hero Firefighter Saves Man’s Life After Horrific Crash
In November 2020, Drew Ricketts was at a Billesley petrol station with his partner when a desperate woman nearby shouted for help. A man had been hit by a car and was lying unconscious, bleeding badly and not breathing.
Swift Action in Seconds
West Midlands Fire Service Chief Fire Officer Phil Loach revealed: “It quickly became clear a serious road traffic collision had occurred. Drew sprang into action, began CPR immediately, and coordinated with West Midlands Ambulance Service on the phone.”
“He and others at the scene stemmed the bleeding and carefully supported the man’s spine. Thanks to Drew’s heroic efforts, the man regained consciousness before paramedics arrived.”
Recovery and Recognition
The ambulance team took over, but Drew stayed to assist. The man has since been discharged from hospital and is steadily recovering.
His family has nominated Drew for both the Pride of Britain and Pride of Birmingham Awards in praise of his life-saving bravery.
“I want to congratulate Drew for his quick, decisive actions,” said Chief Fire Officer Loach. “He used all his training to save a life in a highly challenging situation.”
