Four Hospitalised After Carbon Monoxide Scare in London Flat
Firefighters rushed to a London flat after reports of carbon monoxide (CO) exposure. They used specialist gear to sweep the flat and communal areas, thankfully finding no dangerous CO levels.
Precautionary Hospital Check for Two Adults and Two Kids
A man, woman, and two children were taken to hospital as a safety measure. London Fire Brigade’s spokesperson warned of the deadly nature of CO: “You can’t taste, see or smell CO fumes, but it can kill in minutes.”
Stay Safe: Fit CO Alarms and Spot the Signs
The Brigade urged everyone to install CO alarms in rooms with fuel-burning appliances. Alarms must be loud enough to wake you while sleeping. They also stressed the importance of recognising CO poisoning symptoms:
- Headaches
- Dizziness
- Nausea or vomiting
- Breathlessness
- Collapse or loss of consciousness
Beware — these symptoms can mimic a common illness and can affect pets too!
Quick Fire Response and Lifesaving Advice
The Brigade was called at 12:09pm and left the scene by 2:16pm. One fire engine from Hendon Fire Station and a fire rescue unit from 1 Fire Station attended.
Remember: fitting CO alarms and knowing the symptoms could save lives. If you suspect CO poisoning, seek medical help immediately.
