Firefighters avert explosion by tackling fire involving cylinders on the Isle of Wight

Firefighters have averted an explosion after they tackled a fire in Cowes involving a cylinder this evening. Fire Crews from Cowes and Newport answered a call to a fire alarm sounding and smoke issuing from a building at the Cowes-based Blade Dynamics. When crews arrived they found a 10 litre rein cylinder that has reacted at the commercial property. With large amounts of smoke being given off. Fire crews had to break into the property to deal with the incident. Crews wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels to tackle the incident. The cylinder has been removed from within a work area at the property and crews are still at the scene cooling it. More to follow
