Six Firefighters Hurt in Horror Crash Between London Fire Engines
Six firefighters were rushed to hospital after two London Fire Brigade vehicles smashed into each other on busy Farringdon Road in central London late Saturday night.
Crucial Incident Blocks Central London Junction
The crash happened at around 10.14pm on January 3rd at the Farringdon Road and Clerkenwell Road junction, causing chaos as the crossroads were blocked in all directions. Emergency crews swarmed the scene, closing the road for hours.
Fire Engines from Lambeth and Soho Collide
- A fire engine from Lambeth and Soho’s turntable ladder were involved in the serious collision.
- Both vehicles belong to the London Fire Brigade and were responding to an emergency in Islington.
- Six firefighters suffered injuries including broken bones, chest trauma, and head wounds.
- All injured crew members are now receiving hospital treatment.
Emergency Services Spring Into Action
The London Ambulance Service raced to the scene with medics, paramedics, and their hazardous area response team (HART). They treated and transported all six injured firefighters to hospital.
“We were called at 10.09pm to reports of a road traffic collision at Farringdon Road and Clerkenwell Road,” a LAS spokesperson said. “We treated six patients and took them to hospital.”
Police swiftly set up road closures and cordoned off the area, as the chaotic aftermath was cleared. The road finally reopened at around 3.45am.
Severe Damage and Ongoing Investigation
Both fire engines were severely damaged and had to be towed away. Traffic lights and street furniture nearby were also smashed in the crash.
London Fire Brigade and Metropolitan Police are probing how the collision happened, with inquiries ongoing.
Assistant Commissioner Pat Goulbourne said: “The fire engines were responding to an incident in Islington which has now been resolved. Six crew members were taken to hospital for checks. The circumstances of the collision are under investigation.”
