First Covid-19 Patient Leaves Darent ITU, Walks Out to Staff Applause

From Ventilator to Victory

Biniam, a 43-year-old Uber driver from Eritrea, stunned staff at Darent Valley Hospital when he walked out of the hospital today to a massive round of applause. The first Covid-19 positive patient at Darent had been in intensive care since March 22, after falling ill following a Valentine’s Day holiday in Venice.

Fighting for Life in ITU

Biniam’s condition worsened rapidly, landing him in ITU where he spent 12 days on a ventilator. But the tide turned. On Tuesday, he was moved to Beech Ward, showing steady improvement.

Home at Last

Today, Biniam finally left the hospital, heading home to his family with cheers from the staff who cared for him. The hospital team praised his remarkable recovery and sent him well wishes for a speedy return to full health.
