Four Dead, Including Three Kids, in Horror A40 Crash Near Oxford
Thames Valley Police are at a tragic scene on the A40 near Oxford after a smash claimed the lives of four family members from Chinnor, Oxfordshire. Emergency crews rushed to the site at 9.50pm last night (12/10) following reports of a collision between a silver Subaru people carrier and a white heavy goods vehicle.
Family Wiped Out in Devastating Crash
The fatal crash happened just west of Oxford near the railway overbridge. Despite desperate attempts by medics, three children aged four, six, and eight, plus a 29-year-old woman, died at the scene.
Two survivors from the Subaru – a 30-year-old man and an 18-month-old toddler – were rushed to John Radcliffe Hospital. Both remain in critical condition.
The HGV driver, a 56-year-old man, escaped with minor injuries.
Investigation Underway as Police Appeal for Witnesses
Senior Investigating Officer Sergeant Dominic Mahon from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “This is an incredibly tragic incident, and we’re still in the early stages of our enquiry.”
He urged anyone who saw the collision to call 101 or report online, quoting reference 43200321914. “If you have dash-cam footage of the crash or the vehicles before impact, please do not share it publicly but contact police directly.”
Sgt Mahon also warned against speculation: “We will leave no stone unturned to find out what caused this horror.”
Support for Bereaved Families as Roads Remain Shut
Family Liaison Officers have been deployed to support the devastated next of kin. Thames Valley Police, alongside emergency partners, expressed their heartfelt sympathy to the victims’ families.
The A40 remains closed both ways for ongoing investigations, with officers and emergency services praised for their difficult overnight efforts.
“This is an absolute tragedy,” said Sgt Mahon. “We ask the public and media to respect the investigation and the families during this terrible time.”
