Tragic Crash on Peckham High Street: Man Killed by HGV
Jason Bent: Remembering the Peckham Dad Taken Too Soon
The first picture of Jason Bent, the man tragically mowed down on busy Peckham High Street, has emerged. His heartbroken mother, Mary Bent, said: “He might be dead but he is not gone.”
Jason, 48, a father of one, died at the scene after being struck by a bulk HGV near Burger King. Despite desperate attempts by bystanders to lift the lorry off him, Jason succumbed to his injuries. Those moments were raw and haunting — he was seriously hurt but still conscious initially.
Family Pays Emotional Tribute
Jason was well known locally as a cheeky, popular bloke. His sister Teresa described him as “a good man.” She revealed that he had been on his way to a job centre interview when tragedy struck.
“He lives with my mum. The police aren’t telling us much yet as investigations continue. It’s all still very raw and hasn’t sunk in,” Teresa said.
Mary Bent broke down at the scene, supported by family as police examined the West Yorkshire-registered lorry for hours.
“He was a good boy,” Mary said tearfully. “He left this morning and I called out from the window, telling him to look after himself. It was as if I knew something was going to happen.”
“He might be dead but he’ll never be gone.”
