Tragic Drowning of Seven-Year-Old Shay Lynch at Clonlara Swimming Pool
A heartbreaking tragedy struck Clonlara as seven-year-old Shay Lynch, a beloved pupil of Scoil Seanáin Naofa, lost his life after struggling in the swimming pool at Lakeside Hotel and Leisure Centre.
Emergency Response Fails to Save Boy’s Life
Emergency services were called just before 3pm on Saturday after Shay got into difficulty while swimming. The young boy had been celebrating with family and a close friend when disaster hit. Despite desperate efforts to revive him, Shay was rushed to University Hospital Limerick where he was sadly pronounced dead.
Community Shattered by Loss of Bright Young Star
The news sent shockwaves through Clonlara’s tight-knit community. Scoil Seanáin Naofa principal Donnchadh Kelleher paid a moving tribute, calling Shay “a bright smile and a kind heart” who was loved by all.
“He will be greatly missed,” said Mr Kelleher. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his parents Tania and James, sister Abi, extended family, and wide circle of friends.”
Support Rallies Around Grieving Families and School
The school has activated its critical incident management plan and the National Educational Psychological Service is providing support to students, staff, and families affected by Shay’s passing.
The Lakeside Hotel and Leisure Centre offered their deepest sympathies to Shay’s family and friends. They thanked their lifeguards and emergency responders for their swift action. Out of respect, the hotel’s leisure facilities will remain closed temporarily as the community mourns.
