Former Gosport Councillor Peter Langdon Dies Aged 79
Peter Langdon, veteran Gosport Councillor and Royal Navy officer, has passed away at the age of 79. The former Conservative politician died peacefully at 11pm on 23rd July 2017.
Naval Hero Turned Local Politician
Born in 1938, Langdon served as a Weapons Engineer Officer in the Royal Navy, dedicating 38 years before retiring in 1993. After his naval career, he settled in Hardway for over 40 years and devoted himself to local politics.
He served 17 years as a Gosport Borough Councillor from 1999 to 2016 and was a Hampshire County Councillor between 1997 and 2001.
A Passion for Gosport and Gardening
Outside politics, Peter was famed for his green fingers. Known to bring fresh home-grown tomatoes, lettuces, and other vegetables into the office, he shared his love of gardening with colleagues and friends.

His work on Heritage Way, the BRT, and campaigning for the Stubbington Bypass played a major role in improving Gosport’s infrastructure. He was proud of our town and committed to enhancing transport access, the economy, and our natural environment. A true gentleman, he will be sorely missed.”
