Blaze Destroys Roof and First Floor of Semi-Detached House
A devastating fire tore through a semi-detached house in the early hours, destroying the entire roof and first floor. The ground floor suffered heavy damage, while neighbouring properties were not spared — with a small part of a nearby roof also damaged by the blaze.
Miracle No One Hurt in Early Morning Inferno
Thankfully, no injuries were reported as the fire broke out. The fire brigade received nine emergency calls through their 999 Control Officers, responding swiftly to the scene.
Firefighters Battle Flames in Dramatic Early Hours
“On arrival, we were faced with flames coming from the roof of the building and the entire roof and the first floor were alight,” said Sub Officer Steve Mewett. “Crews worked swiftly to bring the fire under control.”
The fire was first reported at 4.24am and brought under control by 5.54am after crews from Woodside, Norbury and Croydon fire stations battled the blaze.
Fire Safety Tips from the Brigade
“Thankfully, no one was inside at the time of the fire. We’d like to remind people to carry out a few simple checks before you head to bed,” added Sub Officer Mewett.
“Close all your internal doors, turn off and unplug electrical appliances unless they are designed to be left on, and make sure escape routes are clear. These little things can be hugely important if you have a fire in your home.”
“Remember, if you see a fire, call 999 before you film and move well away from the scene. If you don’t see any fire engines there, don’t assume someone else has made the call.”
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
