Fire Breaks Out at Hackney School Basement

Four fire engines and 25 firefighters rushed to a blaze at a school on Amhurst Park, Hackney. The fire damaged part of the building’s basement.

67 Pupils and 16 Adults Evacuated Safely

Sixty-seven pupils and 16 adults evacuated the school before the fire brigade arrived. Luckily, no injuries were reported.

Fire Under Control Within an Hour

Station Commander Sami Goldbrom said: “The fire was confined to the basement below the school. Crews are still working to clear the remaining smoke. Thankfully, everyone was out before we arrived, and the children have now been sent home.”

The fire brigade was called at 1.37pm and had the situation under control by 2.20pm. Fire crews came from Stoke Newington, Tottenham, Holloway, and Homerton stations.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the blaze.
