Priti Patel Greenlights New Taser 7 to Boost Police Safety

Home Secretary Priti Patel has given the thumbs-up to the new Taser 7 model on August 24, aiming to ramp up protection for officers and the public. Only trained police will use this more effective weapon, marking a big upgrade for frontline policing.

Police Federation Wins Long-Awaited Court Gear Breakthrough

The Police Federation – representing nearly 122,000 rank-and-file officers across England and Wales – has secured a crucial win. Backed by frontline evidence, the Federation convinced the Judiciary to change rules, so officers no longer have to ditch their Tasers when attending court on routine business, like giving evidence or handing over exhibits.

The Federation, set up by the Police Act of 1919, has long fought for officers’ welfare and efficiency. Officers had faced hassle removing and storing Tasers before court, often with no secure storage and wasted time.

Police Chiefs and Federation Praise Judicial Change

“This is a big step forward for policing,” said Steve Hartshorn, PFEW Firearms and Taser Lead. “Thanks to Deputy Assistant Commissioner Lucy D’Orsi, Inspector Andy Harding and the dedicated team who pushed for years to make this happen.”

“Our members’ evidence was critical to this success. It’s been frustrating having jobs impeded by outdated rules,” he added. “This decision lets officers better protect themselves, court staff, and the public if violence breaks out. We thank the Judiciary for listening.”

Hartshorn urged any officers facing issues to contact their local Federation branch.
