Tragic Crash at London Southend Airport Kills Four
A small plane exploded in a fiery crash at London Southend Airport on Sunday afternoon, claiming four lives.
Chaos Erupts After Plane Plummets
Eyewitnesses described scenes of “pandemonium” as the Beechcraft B200 Super King Air, operated by Dutch firm Zeusch Aviation, crashed just after takeoff at 4pm.
The aircraft hit the ground in a massive fireball, sending thick black smoke billowing across the airport.
Chief Superintendent Morgan Cronin said: “We are working closely with the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) to determine the cause of this devastating incident. The area remains cordoned off and will be for some time. Our thoughts are with the families of those who lost their lives.”
Horror Witnessed by Nearby Hotel Guests
Families staying at the adjacent Holiday Inn, which overlooks the runway, were among the first to witness the disaster.
20-year-old Sunny Cook said: “There was smoke everywhere and at first I thought it was just a grass fire. But then I saw the wreckage – it was like a scene from a disaster movie.”
Plane-spotter John Johnson, 40, added: “I was watching planes with my family when suddenly this happened. This has shaken us all.”
Flight Plans Grounded Amid Tragedy
Holidaymakers Oliver Zammit and Konnie Culshaw-Markham, who planned to fly to Malta in memory of Oliver’s late father, were among those affected.
Oliver said: “It’s disappointing our trip was cancelled, but we understand. This is much bigger than us.”
Emergency services and investigators continue their work at the scene as the aviation community mourns this heartbreaking loss.
