Good news from Lincolnshire’s famous seal sanctuary! After a slump in 2024, grey seal pup births at Donna Nook have bounced back big time this season.
Seal Pup Numbers Surge
By 12 December 2025, a sprightly 1,911 seal pups had been born. That’s a hefty jump of 262 pups on last year’s low of 1,649. The 2024 dip came after a record-breaking 2,207 pups in 2023, making this season’s rebound all the more welcome.
Early Arrival Kicks Off Busy Season
The first seal pup made a splash in late October, signalling the busiest time at the colony. Right now, Donna Nook is buzzing with 1,287 pups, 233 cows, and 323 bulls all spotted lazing together. Experts report the birthing season is winding down, so numbers won’t rise much further.
Visitors Spot Playful Young Seals
Tourists at the public viewing area are still treated to sights of several groups of weaned pups. These cheeky youngsters are bonding and gearing up for their first sea swims.
Donna Nook remains the UK’s top spot for wild grey seal watching. Fancy a unique seaside day out? Now’s the perfect time to visit!
