Major Incident Shuts Down M27 Near Southampton
Highways England has declared a major incident on the M27 close to Southampton, closing both carriageways between Junction 5 and Junction 7. All traffic has been stopped as emergency crews rush to the scene.
Person Jumps From Bridge – M27 Closed
A Highways England spokesman revealed the westbound carriageway was shut after a person jumped from an overbridge just before 10pm on Thursday. Hampshire Police arrived quickly, but officials have not confirmed the condition of the individual involved.
Severe Delays and Traffic Chaos
The closure is causing at least 30 minutes of delays for westbound motorists. Highways England advises drivers to expect major disruption and consider re-routing if possible.
Official Diversion Route
- Exit the M27 at Junction 7
- Follow the hollow black square diversion via the A334 Watts Way
- Join the A27 for around 2 miles to Wide Lane
- Take Wide Lane (A335) back to the M27 at Junction 5
