HMRC’s Stunning Liverpool HQ Officially Opens
HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has officially opened its brand-new Regional Centre and Government Hub at the historic India Buildings in Liverpool. The grand opening took place on 24 May 2022, led by Myrtle Lloyd, HMRC Director General for Customer Services.
Heritage Meets Modernity in Iconic Grade II* Building
The award-winning Grade II* listed India Buildings, home to around 5,000 HMRC staff, has undergone a four-year restoration. The facelift has transformed it into a bright, modern, and inclusive workspace. The building has been in use since August 2021, but COVID-19 forced a delay on the official launch.
“I am pleased to declare HMRC’s Liverpool Regional Centre open,” said Myrtle Lloyd. “It is the only regional centre within a heritage building and is the result of a four-year programme of restoration and refurbishment which has resulted in a stunning workplace that honours the past but is fit for the future. India Buildings is a welcoming, light-filled space which enables collaborative working for all of our employees in the heart of wonderfully vibrant Liverpool city centre.”
A Tribute to Local Legends and Future-Ready Tech
Lady Massie, widow of late disability rights campaigner Sir Bert Massie—who has a meeting room named after him in the building—attended the opening. The Liverpool Regional Centre is a key part of HMRC’s transformation plan, aiming for modern, flexible offices equipped with cutting-edge tech to make HMRC one of the world’s most digitally advanced tax authorities.
