Indian Airports on High Alert Amid Tensions with Pakistan
Security Cranked Up Across Indian Airports
Indian airports have been thrown into lockdown mode as tensions with Pakistan ramp up under Operation Sindoor. The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has issued urgent nationwide orders. Passengers now face strict Secondary Ladder Point Checks (SLPC) before boarding. Plus, visitor access to terminals is banned at all domestic and international airports across India.
Major carriers like Air India, IndiGo, and Akasa Air are warning travellers to turn up at least three hours early to get through ramped-up security. Only one cabin bag of 7kg is allowed per passenger.
Drone Threats and Retaliation Near Jammu
The heightened alert follows reports of Pakistani-origin drones buzzing near Jammu airport. India has confirmed air strikes targeting air defence systems in Lahore in retaliation. Panic gripped Jammu city Thursday night after blasts were heard nearby.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and Airports Authority of India (AAI) are closely monitoring the situation at 27 affected airports.
Airlines Issue Strong Warnings to Passengers
- Air India: “In line with BCAS directives, all passengers must arrive at airports at least three hours ahead of departure.”
- IndiGo: “Security protocols have been beefed up. Please plan your journeys carefully.”
- Akasa Air: “Only one 7kg hand baggage allowed. Carry valid government ID for terminal entry.”
Defence Ministry Confirms No Casualties
“Pakistani-origin drones and missiles targeted military stations in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur. Threats were neutralised with kinetic and non-kinetic measures. No casualties reported.” – Defence PRO, Jammu
Flight Disruptions and Suspensions Loom
SriLankan Airlines has already halted flights to Pakistan temporarily. Other international carriers are expected to rethink routes over Pakistani and northern Indian airspace amid the ongoing turmoil.
