A blazing inferno tore through a building at Highpoint Prison in Suffolk, forcing the evacuation of around 1,300 inmates. Firefighters faced “extreme heat” as they raced to control the blaze on Tuesday afternoon.
Massive Firefighting Effort Underway
The alarm was raised at 2:40pm, prompting a swift response. Suffolk Fire Service deployed 10 crews to the scene near Stradishall. They were backed up by two more units from neighbouring Cambridgeshire. Firefighters battled the flames in a timber and brick structure with thermal imaging cameras, hose reels, and jets. Their priority was to stop the fire from spreading further.
All Inmates Safe and Accounted For
Prison staff immediately moved inmates to a secure location after the fire broke out. Authorities have confirmed every prisoner has been accounted for, avoiding any injuries in this alarming incident.
