12-Year-Old Girl Critically Injured in Newbury Hit-and-Run

Police launch urgent probe after a 12-year-old girl is hit by a van in Newbury and left fighting for her life.

Serious Collision on A339 at Night

The crash happened just before 9pm on December 27 on the northbound A339, near the railway overbridge close to Station Road. The young girl was walking along the pavement towards the town centre with a companion when a white flatbed van or recovery vehicle struck her.

Driver Flees Scene Without Stopping

The driver failed to stop, leaving the girl injured and in critical condition. She was rushed by ambulance to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, where her family remain at her bedside.

Police Appeal for Witnesses and Dashcams

PC Mark Dunne from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said:

“We urgently need anyone with information to come forward – especially the driver of the vehicle. If you witnessed the collision or have dash-cam footage, please contact us immediately.”

He added:

“The vehicle is likely to have damage on the front nearside. If you’ve seen a van matching this description, contact police quoting reference 1178 (27/12).”
