Smoke scare on Transavia flight as iPad overheats mid-air

Emergency Landing After iPad Smokes Up Cabin

A Transavia flight from Paris to Lisbon was forced into an emergency landing last week after an Apple iPad overheated and started emitting smoke mid-flight, sparking panic over a potential fire onboard.

Flight TO7646, operated by a Boeing 737-800, took off from Paris Orly Airport at 3.44pm on April 10. But halfway through the journey, crew spotted the smoking device and quickly diverted to Porto Airport to avoid disaster.

Safety Crew Spring Into Action

As smoke from the iPad spread through the cabin, the crew swung into emergency mode. The plane safely descended and landed in Porto, where emergency services were ready and waiting on the tarmac.

Thankfully, no one was hurt. The source of the smoke was swiftly contained once the aircraft was on the ground.

Passengers Rebooked, Flight Resumed

After the emergency stop, passengers disembarked in Porto and were promptly re-accommodated on alternative flights to complete their journey to Lisbon.

Transavia has yet to comment officially. Aviation experts warn lithium-ion battery malfunctions in gadgets, while rare, pose serious fire risks on planes.

Warning to Flyers: Watch Your Devices

This drama is a stark reminder to follow airline rules on electronic devices. Passengers should report any overheating, swelling, or strange behaviour from their gadgets to cabin crew immediately.

The plane was inspected and cleared for service with no further problems reported.
