Blazing Underbrush Sparks Fire Alert at Shanklin Esplanade

Firefighters from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service raced to tackle a fierce undergrowth blaze at Shanklin Esplanade on Saturday evening.

Rapid Response from Sandown and Ventnor Crews

Retained firefighters from Sandown and Ventnor were deployed to the cliffs above Shanklin Beach as flames ripped through the dry underbrush. Teams battled the fire using portable pumps, drawing water straight from the sea to douse the roaring flames and prevent the fire from spreading further.

Youths With Gas Canisters Spark Wildfire Fears

The fire service was alerted after concerned members of the public reported youths seen lighting fires with gas canisters just after 5.30pm. An investigation is now underway, with the fire service working closely alongside Hampshire Constabulary to get to the bottom of the blaze.
