M20 Chaos After Lorry Jackknifes and Crashes Into Bridge
A major section of the M20 coastbound is shut after a lorry jackknifed early this morning and slammed into a bridge. The crash dumped debris all over the carriageway, blocking traffic and sparking huge delays.
Emergency Services Race to Clear the Scene
The smash happened around 2:30 am between Junction 8 (Leeds Castle / Maidstone Services) and Junction 9 (Ashford). The HGV is still stuck, causing a motorway shutdown. Kent Police and National Highways Traffic Officers are on site, battling to control the chaos and get traffic moving again.
National Highways say specialist equipment is needed to clear the wreckage, and crews are scrambling to bring it in. Drivers caught behind the crash face delays for most of the morning.
Diversion Route: Follow the Hollow Circle
Motorists heading to the coast are being rerouted off the M20 at Junction 8:
- Exit the M20 at Junction 8
- Take the third exit at the roundabout
- At the next roundabout, take the first exit onto the A20
- Follow the A20 to Fougeres Way and head north towards Junction 9
- Rejoin the M20 eastbound at Junction 9
