Jermaine Jenas and Wife Ellie Penfold Split After 16 Years Amid BBC Text Scandal
Shock Separation After Long Marriage
Former footballer and TV pundit Jermaine Jenas has split from his wife Ellie Penfold after 16 years together. The break-up comes just months after Jenas was axed by the BBC over inappropriate text messages.
Ellie broke the news in an emotional Instagram post this morning, saying:
“I never imagined I would have to share something so personal with the public, but given the situation, I feel it’s necessary. After 16 years together and four wonderful years, Jermaine and I have decided to part ways.We will remain friends and continue to co-parent. We kindly ask that you respect our children’s privacy during this challenging time.
Thank you, Ellie.”
The couple married in 2011 and share three children: daughters Geneva and Olivia, and son Jacob. Jenas also has an older daughter, Sancha, from a previous relationship who lives in the US.
BBC Scandal: Jenas’ Fall From Grace
Jermaine Jenas, 42, was axed by the BBC earlier this year after allegations surfaced of sending inappropriate messages to female colleagues. He lost his roles as Match of the Day pundit and The One Show host in a dramatic dismissal.
Jenas denied any illegal wrongdoing but admitted the messages were regrettable and inappropriate. He was confronted in a meeting with BBC HR and shown a series of explicit texts.
After a six-month break, Jenas made his comeback on talkSPORT in May, pledging to be a “better person” going forward.
What’s Next for Jenas and Family?
Neither Jermaine nor Ellie have revealed any more details about their separation. The public has shown sympathy, particularly for Ellie and their three children, as they face this tough time.
