Blazing Grass Fire Sparks Panic in Slade Green
Firefighters raced to Howbury Lane, Slade Green, this afternoon to tackle a fierce grass fire that engulfed two hectares of dry land. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
Dry Weather Fuels Fast-Spreading Flames
A spokesperson for the london-fire.gov.uk" title="London Fire Brigade" target="_blank" rel="noopener">London Fire Brigade warned, “The warmer weather has left the ground bone dry. Even the tiniest spark can set parks and grassland ablaze in seconds.”
They urged anyone spotting a grass fire not to attempt putting it out themselves. Grass fires move quickly and can change direction without warning. Instead, call emergency services immediately and give the fire’s location.
Rapid Response from Fire Crews
The fire brigade received 18 calls about the blaze at Howbury Lane. The alarm was raised at 2:44 pm, and firefighters had the fire under control by 3:31 pm.
Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters from Bexley and Plumstead stations, along with support from the kent.fire-uk.org/" title="Kent Fire and Rescue Service" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kent Fire and Rescue Service, tackled the inferno.
