Firefighters Rush to Small Blaze as Grass Fire Season Hits Peak
Two fire engines battled a small undergrowth fire this week, swiftly dousing the flames with hose reel jets. Luckily, no one was hurt, and officials believe the blaze was accidental.
Warning as Fire Risk Soars Across the County
It’s peak season for grass, crop, and woodland fires. Colin King, Assistant Director for Customer Engagement and Safety at KFRS, warns these fires can spread fast and cause serious damage. He urged everyone living, working, or visiting the area to stay vigilant.
“These types of incidents can have devastating consequences, therefore it’s important that everyone plays their part in preventing them from happening in the first place.”
How You Can Help Prevent Dangerous Fires
- Bonfires: Keep them small, away from greenery and property, and never leave them unattended. Avoid lighting bonfires on windy days.
- Smoking: Fully stub out cigarettes and cool them before disposal. Use portable ashtrays when out and about.
- Barbecues: Place disposable barbecues on sturdy, non-flammable surfaces, away from greenery and buildings. Only throw them in bins once completely cool.
Stay safe and help beat the blaze this fire season!
