Florida Cops Drop In on Kent Police in Seaside Switch-up
Two American officers swapped Florida for the UK’s Margate in a unique police meet-up. Anthony Careccia, a school resource officer from the Margate Police Department in Florida, visited Kent Police station in Fort Hill on Thursday, 4 November 2021. He wasn’t alone – his son Gregory, a cop with the Boca Raton Police Department, joined him.
Why the Visit?
The father and son duo wanted to see the British Margate, which shares its name and even its postcode number with their Florida hometown. On holiday in the UK, they took the chance to tour the Kent Police station and learn about local efforts to keep the Thanet area safe.
Gifts and Goodwill Across the Pond
Kent’s District Commander for Thanet, Chief Inspector Matt Smith, said:
“It was lovely to welcome officers from Margate, FL to our station here in Margate, Kent. It is always useful to speak to other forces and learn from them.”
He added:
“We shared best practices and explained our commitment to putting victims and witnesses at the heart of our policing. As a thank-you, we gave them classic British police custodian hats — a memento of their UK visit. I hope they enjoyed their time here and wish them a safe journey back home.”
The sunny side of policing just got a bit friendlier on both sides of the Atlantic.
