Kent Kings steamroll Isle of Wight Warriors in a rain-soaked rout
Despite light rain, speedway roared on at the Isle of Wight – but the home Warriors were crushed 56-32 by a flying Kent Kings side. The visitors stormed to a 19-point lead after just five races, effectively snuffing out any hope of a comeback.
Kent’s lightning start leaves Warriors reeling
Kent’s relentless riding and a string of calamities for the Warriors set the tone early. From engine failures to injuries, the hosts were hit from all sides. Stand-in number one Danny Ayres suffered two engine failures despite leading, while Scott Campos was forced to withdraw with shoulder damage on his first outing.
- Chris Widman and Shaun Tedham were hampered by falls and retirements.
- Ben Hopwood faced a controversial disqualification after a tight tussle with Kent’s Jack Thomas.
- Junior Josh Embleton showed promise but couldn’t turn the tide.
Manager Jackie Vatcher admits blowout was brutal
“The first five heats did for us and cost us any hope of being able to compete tonight,”
said Warriors’ team boss Jackie Vatcher, visibly stunned.
“I’ve never known a meeting where so many things went against us so quickly. Fair play to Kent who made the most of our problems, but we are better than we showed tonight – we must start showing it.”
