Cliff Collapse Shuts Popular Isle of Wight Beach Path

The Isle of Wight Council has shut a footpath at Alum Bay in West Wight after a landslip caused part of the cliff to crumble. A section of the cliff face gave way, damaging the final flight of stairs that lead down to the beach.

Safety Fears Close Beach Access

The collapse has compromised the stairs’ structural integrity, forcing officials to block off access. Council Rights of Way teams and contractors are on site assessing the damage and planning repairs.

Council Promises Quick Repairs

A Council spokesperson said: “We know how important and popular this beach access is, especially at this time of year. If repairs are possible, we will act fast to reopen the path.”

Barriers and warning signs are up. The public is urged not to use the stairs until further notice for their own safety.

The Council will provide updates as soon as more information is available.
