Tragic End for Marathon Runner Steve Shanks
Steve Shanks, 45, tragically died after completing the London Marathon. He ran the full 26 miles in an impressive 2 hours, 53 minutes, and 26 seconds.
Remembering a Passionate and Multi-Talented Man
Steve, from Bingham, Nottingham, was no stranger to marathons and a keen runner known for tackling everything from local Parkruns to the brutal Bob Graham Round. But he was more than just a runner. A musician, knitter, and quiz whiz with a love for awful pop music, Steve was beloved by all who knew him.
“He was a devoted husband and soulmate to his wife Jess, a cherished son and son-in-law, and a dear friend. He will be sorely missed and will live on in our hearts and memories forever.”
Support for a Cause Close to His Heart
In Steve’s memory, a GoFundMe page has been set up to support the Multiple Sclerosis Society. The cause was close to Steve’s heart, as several of his close friends suffer from MS.
Condolences and Next Steps
The London Marathon organisers expressed their shock and sympathy, saying: “Everyone at London Marathon Events was deeply saddened to hear about the sudden death of Steve Shanks as he travelled home on Sunday, 23 April after taking part in the London Marathon.”
A medical examination is pending to establish the cause of death. The family has asked for privacy during this difficult time.
