Lorry Blaze Brings M1 Southbound to a Standstill
A raging lorry fire has sparked chaos on the M1, shutting down lanes and causing gridlock between Northampton and Milton Keynes.
Two Lanes Closed Before Total Traffic Halt
Shortly after 10.30am, two of four southbound lanes between junction 15 (Northampton) and junction 14 (Milton Keynes) were closed as flames engulfed a lorry. By 10.50am, traffic was at a complete standstill as emergency crews scrambled to tackle the blaze.
Firefighters Battle Blaze Amid Heavy Delays
National Highways confirmed at 11.19am that traffic remains stopped between J15 and J14 southbound. “The fire service are still working to extinguish the vehicle, and additional water is now being sent to the scene,” they said.
Motorists Warned to Avoid the M1
Drivers face major delays. Officials urge motorists to seek alternative routes until the fire is fully extinguished and lanes reopen.
