Lucky Seven-Year-Old Pulled from 70ft Well in Daring Rescue

A seven-year-old boy is safe after falling 20 feet down a deep well in Greyshott, Hampshire, tonight. Fire crews from Hampshire and Surrey, backed by a specialist Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team, sprang into action just after 6.20pm when the youngster became trapped.

Firefighters Launch High-Stakes Rescue

Surrey Fire and Rescue quickly alerted neighbouring Hampshire crews, who sent teams from Rushmoor, Bordon, Basingstoke, and Farnham. The Basingstoke crew arrived with specialised rescue equipment while Hampshire’s USAR team handled the complex rope operations, ensuring a swift recovery.

Hooked to Safety After Two Hours Underground

The boy, who had been standing near a capped-off well in a private garden, fell into the 70-foot dry well on Whitmore Vale. Firefighters lowered one of their own down the shaft and used a two-rope rescue pack to winch the youngster up after over two intense hours of effort.

“He was a very lucky boy to have escaped without serious injury,” one firefighter said.

Safe and Sound—Hospital Check-Up Underway

Once freed, the boy was handed over to the South Central Ambulance Service and is now being checked out at hospital as a precaution. The brave rescue marks a reminder of how quickly accidents can happen — and how vital emergency services are in keeping our communities safe.
