Three Hurt After Wrong-Way Driver Sparks Horror Crash on M3
Wrong-Way Car Triggers Serious Collision
Chaos struck the M3 on Saturday evening when a car was spotted driving the wrong way between Winchester and Basingstoke. Around 7pm, a two-vehicle crash erupted between Junction 9 (Winchester) and Junction 8 (A303 near Basingstoke), leaving three people injured.
Massive Emergency Response
The collision forced the M3 to shut in both directions. Firefighters from Eastleigh, Winchester, Basingstoke, and Redbridge rushed to the scene alongside multiple ambulances. One victim was so badly trapped that rescue crews had to cut them free from their vehicle.
Serious Injuries and Long Traffic Delays
A Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson said: “We were called at 7pm to a report of a collision involving two cars on the M3 northbound. It was reported one of the vehicles had been travelling in the wrong direction. The driver of this vehicle suffered serious injuries and is receiving treatment in hospital.”
The other two people involved suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene. The motorway remained closed for hours, causing major traffic chaos well into Sunday morning as authorities cleared the wreckage and investigated the crash.
Motorists Urged to Stay Alert
Drivers planning to travel in the area are warned to check live traffic updates and expect ongoing delays. Authorities continue to investigate and monitor the route for safety.
