Two Found Unconscious in Amesbury—Unknown Substance Suspected

Wiltshire police have launched a major incident after a man and woman were found unconscious in a property on Muggleton Road, Amesbury, on Saturday evening. Both victims, in their 40s, are in critical condition at Salisbury District Hospital following suspected exposure to an unknown substance.

Initial Theories Point to Contaminated Drugs

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said the pair were first thought to have fallen ill after using heroin or crack cocaine from a possibly contaminated batch. “Further tests are ongoing,” they added, “and we are keeping an open mind about what caused this. It’s not yet clear if a crime has been committed.”

Crime Scene and Public Safety Measures Underway

A multi-agency investigation is in full swing, with multiple locations around Amesbury and Salisbury cordoned off as police work to trace the source of the substance. Residents should expect to see an increased police presence in the area as a precaution.

Salisbury District Hospital remains open and is advising patients to attend routine appointments unless told otherwise.

Public Health England Assures No Wider Risk

Public Health England said there is currently no significant health risk to the public based on the number of casualties. “This will be continuously reviewed as more information emerges,” a spokesman confirmed.

If anyone has information about the incident, they should contact Wiltshire Police immediately by calling 999.
