M25 Shuts Down Completely This Weekend – Brace for Chaos!

London drivers are facing nightmare traffic as the M25 motorway closes entirely between junctions 10 and 11 this weekend. From 9pm Friday, March 15, until 6am Monday, March 18, this stretch will be off-limits — marking the first-ever full weekend shutdown here.

Why the Full Closure?

The shutdown is needed to demolish the Clearmount bridleway bridge and install a massive new gantry. These vital works can’t happen with the motorway open, so expect total gridlock.

Follow the Official Diversions – Don’t Trust Sat Navs!

National Highways warns of serious delays and urges drivers to take alternative routes or postpone travel. The official diversion routes for both directions are:

  • Junction 10 to 11: Take the northbound A3 to Painshill Junction, then A245 towards Woking, before joining the A320 back to M25 Junction 11.
  • Junction 11 to 10: Follow the A320 south, then A245 to Byfleet and Painshill, finally southbound on the A3 to Junction 10.

National Highways stresses sticking to these officially planned routes rather than satellite navigation to prevent extra congestion and disruption for local residents.

Officials Urge Patience as Delays Loom

Daniel Kittredge, senior project manager at National Highways, told drivers to “strictly follow the diversion routes” for smoother journeys and less traffic chaos.

Jonathan Wade, National Highways’ project lead, warns: “Avoid the M25 during closures unless absolutely necessary. Despite diversion plans, expect heavy jams and delays.” There are five more full closures planned on this M25 section up to September 2024 to improve safety and traffic flow.
