Big Jam on M3 After HGV Overturns at Junction 12
An overturned lorry has brought the M3 to a halt westbound at Junction 12. The motorway is shut, with traffic forced off at the exit and entry slip roads.
Major Recovery Underway
The crash happened just before 10pm on Sunday, sparking a full-scale recovery operation. Emergency teams are on the scene, using winches to right the tractor-trailer.
Driver Escapes Serious Injury
Thankfully, the lorry driver walked away without serious harm. Hampshire Police confirmed they were called at 9.36pm about the single-vehicle smash southbound near Junction 12.
“The lorry is lying on its side between the off and on slip roads. It has damaged the roadside barrier,” police said.
Traffic Chaos as Road Remains Closed
The southbound carriageway is closed between the slips at Junction 12. Drivers face lengthy delays with a diversion in place. The northbound lane remains open.
Police say the closure will stay for some time while they clear the wreck and damaged barrier. Recovery contractors and emergency crews from Eastleigh and Hart are on site working to reopen the route safely.
