Dramatic Coastguard Rescue in Solent Airlift!
A major rescue mission is underway this afternoon in the Solent involving the Lee on the Solent Coastguard rescue helicopter. The bird was scrambled to winch a seriously ill crew member off the Korea-registered container ship Glovis Comet.
Winchman Plunges Into Action
A daring winchman was lowered onto the deck of the massive 55,680-tonne, 32-meter cargo vessel. The crew member was in urgent need of medical evacuation, prompting quick action from the coastguard team.
Swift Airlift to Hospital
The man was successfully hoisted aboard the rescue helicopter and rushed to Queen Alexandra Hospital in portsmouth/" title="Portsmouth" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Portsmouth.
A Maritime and Coastguard Agency spokeswoman said: “The ship radioed for assistance at about 1.15pm, informing the UK Coastguard Operations Centre at Fareham that a crew member on board had fallen ill.
“We dispatched the coastguard rescue helicopter 104 to the scene. A winchman paramedic was sent down to treat the patient with the intention to airlift him for hospital treatment.”
