Person Struck by Train at St Dunstan’s Crossing in Canterbury
A major rescue operation is underway after a person was hit by a train at the St Dunstan’s street crossing in Canterbury on Wednesday evening, just after 8pm.
Emergency Services Flood the Scene
Kent Police, Fire crews, and elite “HART” Paramedics rushed to the scene. The Kent, Sussex and Surrey Air Ambulance’s flying doctors have also landed to assist the seriously injured victim.
Firefighters set up a rope rescue system using a height vehicle to help recover the casualty from the scene, a level crossing.
Road Closures and Transport Chaos
Kent Police closed Rheims Way, a key route into and out of Canterbury, to aid the rescue and recovery efforts. All train lines through the station are currently blocked.
Network Rail and Southern Eastern are managing the disruption. Southern Eastern promised to arrange replacement buses if possible to get passengers to affected stations.
