Man Rushed to Hospital After Coach Hits Pedestrian Near Houses of Parliament
A serious crash involving a coach and a pedestrian on Abingdon Street, just yards from the iconic Houses of Parliament, has left a man injured and hospitalised.
Emergency Services Swarm Scene of Crash
The incident happened shortly after 1:30pm on Wednesday, 11 June, outside Dean’s Yard. The Metropolitan Police, London Ambulance Service, London’s Air Ambulance, and the Fire Brigade all rushed to the scene.
The injured man suffered a head injury and was treated on-site before being taken by road to a major trauma centre. Police later confirmed his injuries are not life-threatening or life-changing.
Abingdon Street Shut, Chaos on London Buses
Authorities closed Abingdon Street in both directions from Parliament Square to Great Peter Street, triggering heavy traffic jams and disrupting key bus routes including the 3, 87, and C10.
Collision experts examined the scene thoroughly, with road closures lifted by early evening.
Separate Whitehall Lockdown Over Suspicious Vehicle
In a separate yet nearby scare, police cordoned off part of Whitehall near Downing Street after a suspicious abandoned vehicle sparked fears. Bus routes 12, 24, and 26 were diverted, and parts of an underground station saw temporary exit closures.
The Met Police stressed this second incident was purely precautionary and unrelated to the Abingdon Street crash. The area reopened at roughly 4:20pm.
