Man Hospitalised After Serious Crash with Unmarked Police Car in Liverpool

A man was rushed to hospital after his Ford C-Max Zetec smashed into an unmarked police vehicle responding to an emergency call in Liverpool.

  • When: Just before 9:10 AM, Sunday, March 2, 2025
  • Where: Sefton Street at the junction with Hill Street
  • Vehicles: Unmarked police Skoda Kodiaq on blue lights and sirens, and a Ford C-Max Zetec (initially mistaken for a Ford Focus)

Injuries & Emergency Response

  • The Ford driver was hospitalised in serious but stable condition.
  • The police officer driving the Skoda was checked over and suffered no serious injuries.
  • A police dog inside the Skoda was examined by a vet and found unhurt.
  • North West Ambulance Service confirmed dispatch of two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle, and an air ambulance shortly after the 9:09 AM call.

Eyewitness Reports

“The crash was massive. I saw loads of police arrive about 20 minutes ago. Then the helicopter landed,” said one witness.

Another added, “I saw a black Skoda with its lights on, in the middle of the road with the grey Ford.”

Road Closures & Traffic Chaos

  • Sefton Street remains closed between Brunswick Way (Brunswick roundabout) and Parliament Street (A562) for ongoing accident investigations.
  • Heavy traffic and queues reported in the area, according to traffic monitoring service Inrix.

Police Appeal for Witnesses

Merseyside Police are calling on anyone who saw the crash or has dashcam footage from Sefton Street around 9 AM to come forward.
