A man has been locked up after a high-speed crash killed one and seriously injured another on Birmingham’s Soho Road in February 2024.
Tragic Crash Kills Hizar Hanif
Hizar Hanif lost his life when an Audi A4 smashed into the back of the car he was travelling in on 18 February. The collision happened as he and his friend were on their way to collect suits ahead of a wedding.
Dangerous Driving and Multiple Collisions
Mohammed Ali, 27, was spotted hurtling down Soho Road at speeds up to 90mph. He dangerously overtook several cars before crashing into Mr Hanif’s vehicle. Ali also slammed into another car, badly injuring that driver. Mr Hanif died instantly at the scene, while his friend escaped with minor injuries but remains devastated by the loss of his best mate.
Assault on Police and Severe Sentencing
After the smash, Ali was taken to the hospital, where he verbally and physically assaulted a police officer. He was arrested and charged with causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and assaulting an officer. Last month at Birmingham Crown Court, Ali pleaded guilty. Yesterday, he was jailed for seven years and banned from driving for four years and six months once released.
