A man is fighting for life following a dramatic prison van rollover on the busy A27 Lewes bypass.

At just before 11am on Monday, a high-speed smash between a security van transporting a prisoner and a huge HGV lorry sparked chaos on the A27. Emergency services rushed to the scene after locals reported a serious crash.

Serious Injuries & Road Closure

The 29-year-old male passenger sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving emergency treatment. Recovery operations are ongoing at the scene.

The A27 remains closed both ways between Ashcombe and Southerham roundabouts, causing severe traffic jams. Commuters are urged to steer clear and expect delays well into the afternoon.
