UCU Boss Calls Out Universities Over £40 Billion War Chest
“The university sector in the UK has over £40bn sitting in reserves, yet instead of using that to deliver a cost-of-living pay rise and scrap pension cuts, vice-chancellors are forcing staff into strike action and shutting down campuses,” said UCU General Secretary Jo Grady.
“There’s a way out of this mess, but university bosses lack the political will. They’re letting down staff who want to work and students desperate to study.”
“Students get it – staff conditions are learning conditions. We’re proud to have their support. A system built on low pay and insecure contracts fails everyone.”
