Masked Muslim youths take to east London streets to defy UKIP’s banned ‘crusade’ march

On Saturday, masked Muslim youths clad in black and waving Bangladesh and Palestine flags flooded Whitechapel, east London, vowing to stand firm against a far-right UKIP rally banned from Tower Hamlets. Police forced the controversial “mass deportations” march nine miles west to Marble Arch amid fears of violent clashes.

Defiant Message in Whitechapel: “We Will Defend Our Community”

A fiery speaker addressed the Whitechapel crowd, slamming UKIP’s march as a direct assault on Islam. “They came specifically targeting Islam,” he declared, quoting the far-right’s call for a “crusade” to “take back our streets.”

“We stand firm to let them know if you come, we will stand firm and will be ready to defend our elders, to defend our women, to defend our community,”

Arabic chants echoed through the crowd as the speaker insisted their protest was purely defensive. “We have never once said we were going on crusades or going into your areas to cause you problems. You are coming into our homes and want to cause us problems. What’s wrong with us standing up?”

Met Police Ban UKIP from Tower Hamlets Amid Disorder Fears

The Metropolitan Police banned UKIP’s planned march through Tower Hamlets last week, citing serious fears of violent disorder. The protest was originally set to start outside Whitechapel Station but was pushed 9 miles west to Marble Arch.

Commander Nick John explained:

“Tower Hamlets has the largest percentage of Muslim residents anywhere in the UK and the prospect of this protest taking place in the heart of the borough has been the cause of significant concern locally… there is a realistic prospect of serious disorder.”

UKIP Rally Goes Ahead in Kensington — Four Arrests Made

About 75 UKIP supporters gathered near a Catholic church in Kensington before marching to Marble Arch. They brandished banners reading “Islamist invaders not welcome in Britain” and shouted slogans like “send them home” and “hail the nation, deportation.”

UKIP leader Nick Tenconi called for a “ninth crusade” against Islamism and Communism, pledging to confront “communists and Islamists” with “Christian courage.”

Four counter-protesters were arrested for breaching police conditions as they tried to confront the march. A local wedding guest near the London Oratory church said the demonstration “massively disrupted proceedings” and left “the bride shattered.”

Community Unites to Reject Far-Right Intimidation

The Whitechapel counter-protest rallied local groups and Stand Up To Racism under a banner of unity. Tower Hamlets Mayor Lutfur Rahman praised police action, warning:

“This far-right rally would have caused significant disruption and intimidation… and spread fear and prejudice.”

Rahman invoked the historic 1936 Battle of Cable Street, when 100,000 locals united to block fascists marching through the East End. “From the Battle of Cable Street to today, the far right has never succeeded in dividing our community and they never will,” he vowed.

UKIP Hits Back: “Two-Tier Policing” Claims

UKIP slammed the Met for “caving into Islamists” and suppressing free speech. Tenconi labelled the police ban “two-tier policing at its worst” and accused officers of having “lost control of the streets of London.”

The Metropolitan Police defended its approach, citing past bans near synagogues and Jewish neighbourhoods and stressing public safety must come first.

From Eurosceptics to Far-Right Street Warriors: UKIP’s New Face

Since Nick Tenconi took over in 2025, UKIP has morphed from a eurosceptic party to a hardline far-right movement obsessed with Christian identity politics and anti-immigration rallies. Former leader Nigel Farage quit in 2018, condemning the party’s fixation with Islam and extremist ties.
