Massive 5-Alarm Fire Destroys Illinois Egg Farm
A huge fire tore through one of the country’s largest free-range egg farms in Farina, Illinois, on Wednesday evening. The inferno, which broke out at around 6:30pm local time, claimed the lives of over 1.2 million chickens and razed at least three buildings on the site.
Firefighting Teams Battle Blaze Detected on Radar
More than 15 fire departments rushed to the scene as thick smoke billowed into the sky. So fierce was the blaze that it showed up on Doppler radar, with smoke reaching heights between 13,000 and 15,000 feet and visible from 20 miles away. The fire caused extensive property damage and cast a shadow over the surrounding area.
