Amber Alert Issued as Arctic Chill Hits UK
The Met Office has dropped a rare amber cold weather warning as freezing temperatures are set to blast across England this week. From 6pm on Thursday, December 7, until 9am on Monday, December 12, severe cold and ice will grip large parts of the country.
Cold Snap to Hit Vulnerable Brits Hard
This level three alert covers all of England and stretches into northern regions, signalling heightened risks for the elderly and those needing social or healthcare support. The Met Office urges everyone to check on friends and family, ensure they have hot food and proper heating.
“Rather cold conditions are expected to turn colder across much of the UK later Wednesday and through Thursday as air from the Arctic spreads south across the country,” said the Met Office.
Expect biting frosts each night, with daytime temps struggling to creep above freezing. Wintry showers will hit some coastal areas, leaving dangerous icy patches inland.
Scotland Faces First Snow of the Season
The chill comes with snow on the horizon. Scotland will see its first flakes this week, thanks to the fierce ‘Troll of Trondheim’ storm. Snow could fall to low levels by Wednesday, with 2-5cm accumulating in lower areas and up to 10cm above 200 metres. Blizzard-like conditions are likely in strong northerly winds.
Stay Safe and Seek Help if Needed
