Amber Alert Issued as Arctic Blast Hits UK

The Met Office has dropped a rare amber cold weather warning ahead of a sharp temperature plunge this week. Severe cold and icy conditions are forecast across much of England starting the evening of December 7, lasting until the morning of December 12.

Freezing Risks for Vulnerable Brits

The amber alert, a level three warning, covers all of England and parts of northern areas. It warns of increased dangers for vulnerable groups, especially those relying on social or healthcare services.

The Met Office urges everyone to check on friends and family who may struggle in the cold. Make sure loved ones have warm food and hot drinks, and their homes are properly heated to avoid health risks.

Snow, Frosts and Icy Surprises on the Way

“Rather cold conditions are expected to turn colder across much of the UK later Wednesday and through Thursday as Arctic air sweeps south,” the Met Office forecast says.

  • Widespread frosts and severe frosts at night
  • Daytime temps hovering at or just above freezing
  • Wintry showers hitting some coasts, with icy patches likely

Scotland braces for its first snow of the season, brought by the ‘Troll of Trondheim’ storm. Snow could fall to low levels Wednesday, with 2-5cm possible in lowlands and 5-10cm above 200 metres. Expect drifting snow and blizzard conditions driven by strong northerly winds.
