Govt to Hand Out £900 in New Cost of Living Boosts
The Department for Work and Pensions has unveiled a fresh round of cash help for millions struggling with soaring bills. Around 8 million people on means-tested benefits are set to get automatic payments totalling nearly £900 over the next year, targeting Universal Credit, Pension Credit, and tax credits recipients.
Three £300 Payments Starting Spring 2023
- Spring 2023: First Cost of Living Payment – £301
- Autumn 2023: Second Payment – £300
- Spring 2024: Final Payment – £299
These payments land straight into bank accounts with no need to apply, aiming to soften the blow of the cost of living crunch gripping the nation.
Extra Cash for Disabled and Pensioners
More good news for vulnerable groups: over 6 million disabled people will receive a £150 boost this summer, while over 8 million pensioners are set for an extra £300 alongside their Winter Fuel Payments. This follows last year’s Autumn Statement pledge to ease financial pain.
UK Faces Bill Hikes, Millions in Strain
The move comes after a Citizens Advice poll revealed a third of Britons can’t handle just a £20 monthly bill increase. The survey found:
- 25% would struggle somewhat
- 7% find it very difficult
- 4% say it’s impossible
“We are sticking to our promise to protect the most vulnerable, and these payments, worth hundreds of pounds, will provide vital support next year for those on the lowest incomes,” said Work and Pensions Secretary Mel Stride.
“The Government’s broader assistance package has already aided over eight million families as we continue to deal with the global consequences of Putin’s illegal war and the pandemic’s aftershocks.”
